Updated May  27, 2011

Busan is hosting the Busan International Machinery Fair (BUTECH) 2011 from Wednesday to Sunday at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO).

The country¡¯s largest machinery fair will feature 420 companies including Hyundai Wia from 23 countries this year, the highest number of participants in its history.

Busan Metropolitan City and Busan Machinery Industry cooperation (BMIC) will host the event, and the Korea Industrial Marketing Institute (KIMI) has organized it.

The BUTECH organizer said it expects some 12,000 visitors including 2,000 foreign buyers.

"We forecast BUTECH 2011 would create deals worth more than $1.2 billion and indirect benefits worth 90 billion won," the organizer said in a statement.

Busan is the largest machinery production center with some 70,000 suppliers in the sector located in or around the city. Korea¡¯s second largest city accounts for more than half of the country¡¯s total machinery production.

In 2009, the biennial fair drew 350 companies from 22 countries including Japan, China, the U.S. and many European countries.
